Potential GrassStock Volunteers:
We have made a few changes to the volunteer process. We have designed a
Volunteer Application better suited to everyone’s specific needs.
This application and brief descriptions of each position can be found
below. Please be advised, although we work to give everyone the shifts
and teams they have requested, there will be times in which not
everyone will receive what they have asked for. Flexibility is an
important part of volunteering. We thank you for understanding. Hours
and shifts are a first come, first served basis. The earlier you submit
you’re application, the more likely you are to receive your
first, second or third choice. Please be specific, and contact the
Volunteer Coordinator if your information or availability has changed
prior to the festival. We hope our procedure will make things easier to
our volunteers. Thank You for your interest, we look forward to working

Old National Bluegrass! GrassStock Event Producers
So What, Exactly, Does Volunteering involve?
Most volunteer Jobs require some degree of physical activity. Whether
it is standing, walking, lifting or other types of exertion, be
prepared for some motion, and respect your own limitations. We all work
hard, but we want your experience to be a positive one! Plan to be out
in the elements during your time with us. Some work areas are tented,
but many require protection from the sun and/or rain. It can get chilly
at night, or fairly hot, so come prepared with gear for all types of
weather. You’ll be glad you did! Finally be aware of your time
limitations… if you are thinking of volunteering for our Annual
Fund Raiser Festival, it would be helpful to know what is expected
beforehand. Generally, each volunteer is expected top work at least 3
hours; however some crews work on a different schedule, depending on
the mission or task. Below is a short description of each crew and what
is expected of our volunteers
GS Fund Raising Crew
WWB Mart:
The WWB Mart
is located adjacent to the main event area. Volunteers will sell
t-shirts and festival souvenirs. This position involves working
with cash register, making change, organizing t-shirts and
Festival merchandise, and tracking silent auction items. What is
enjoyable about working the “WWB Mart”,
is getting to work with patrons and the stage show during
your shift.
50/50 Crew
The 50/50 crew
(may work in conjunction with the Donations Crew…) is
responsible for scheduled “rounds” of the selling of
tickets to be drawn, at scheduled appropreate times, in which the
ticket holder of the drawn ticket will receive 50% of the collected
funds. This duty should occur, at least, twice daily.
Donations Crew
The Donations Crew
(may work in conjunction with the 50/50 Crew…) is responsible
for scheduled “rounds” through the festival grounds,
seeking donations of funds or product (to be auctioned of…) to
financially benefit the WWB.
GS Traffic and Safety Crew
The Traffic and Safety Crew is
made up of volunteers assisting in safe traffic flow, assisting day
visitors park their cars and campers and assist our handicapped campers
and guests. They, also, ensure general safety throughout the festival
campground. This job will entail working in the sun and being on your
feet. They also serve as the “Eyes and Ears” for festival
security. Most of the crew works on foot, but there is a Mountain Bike Patrol being formed. T&S operates 24 hours, so a night schedule is available. T&S begins the night before the festival, so volunteers should arrive in planty of time for check in assignments! Minimum age is 18 for this crew.
GS Environmental Crew
The Environmental Crew
volunteers will be in charge of keeping the festival grounds clean, at
all times. The environmental team makes several trips per day empting
garbage cans into the back of the designated refuse vehicle and rounds
through the campground. The trash is collected and disposed of into a
central refuse receptacle. Environmental volunteers are NOT expected to
work ALL shifts every day! The Environmental Crew should be available
for a final pick up round Sunday morning!
GS Hospitality Crew
The Hospitality Crew
works with artists needs, involves assistance in transporting produce
to the designated “Artist Area” and keeping the back stage
area neat and clean, as well as providing drinks for artists performing
(if needed). A benefit of this position is being able to hear the stage
shows and meeting the performers.
GS Street Team Crew
The Street Team Crew is needed PRE-FEST!!!
This crew will assist the Advertising Chair Person by attending
festivals, events and concerts and advertising GrassStock by handing
out fliers and talking to many people about the up coming GrassStock
event. A great personality is a MUST for this crew!
GS Stage Crew
The Stage Crew is
involved in working backstage involves keeping the area neat and clean,
and keeping drink coolers full for artists performing. The
“may” be asked to assist the sound company in stage plot
changing, between sets etc…. A benefit to this crew is meeting
the performers and seeing the shows “Back Stage”.
GS KidGrass Crew
The “KidGrass Crew” assist’s
the Youth in Bluegrass Chairperson with kids' activities. Prepare craft
materials. Volunteers must enjoy working with young people. Teaching,
supervisory, or recreational experience with children (patience…
lol) is a plus. Adults should expect some evening hours, for the movie
night especially.
GS Support Crew
The GrassStock Support Crew are volunteers that are “On Call” to be available to work any
position, as needed. This requires flexibility on the part of the
volunteer. Needs, deemed necessary of the Event Producer or Volunteer
Coordinator, will be assigned to this crew.
GS Tech Crew
Media Crew
Photographs or shoots video of all aspects of the festival both day and
night, from the main stage and images around the festival; of vendors,
sponsors, volunteers and staff workers, providing a broad range
of images and/or videos from every day of the festival, from Wednesday
through Sunday. Members of the Media Crew will submit best-of sets of
photos and videos according to GrassStock guidelines for use in print
and on the web site. All images are expected to be in digital format.
Internet Technology Crew
Responsible for creating the network needed to broadcast live
performances from GrassStock, as well as regular shows from WWB
I-DJ’s. Wireless transmission of the internet and transmission of
the audio signal to the mobile broadcast facility is desired. Must
understand the terrain of the farm and technical aspects of the WWB
Operation while at GrassStock.
GS Emergency Services Crew
Specialized Crew provides Advanced Medical services, including preventative medicine to all persons at the festival. Applicants must have medical backgrounds, from First Responders to Physician and must have Ohio State Licensure. All applicants must be interviewed by the EMS Director. EMT's are the most needed on this crew, licensed in the state of Ohio.
GrassStock Volunteer Coordinator
The GrassStock Executive Committee is currently seeking a qualified individual to become the Volunteer Chairperson.
This person would be responsible for the staffing of the various
committees, as well as assisting the chairpersons of the other
committees in the fulfillment of volunteer needs, specific to the
different individual committee needs. Must have experience in festival volunteer programs and an appreciation of what the WWB does.
GrassStock Chairpersons
Do you see an area above that you feel can head up? Are you a
“Team Player”, with a great imagination? Do you think you
can ADD to the spirit of GrassStock? If so, you may want to apply to
chair a committee! We have Fund Raising, Entertainment, KidGrass, and
other sub committee’s such as Workshop Development, Donation
Acquisition, Sponsorship Development and others. Interested?
